Here at Root & Muddle, we pride ourselves on using only the highest quality ingredients. Our products are made with 100% organic, natural, Ayurvedic, and sustainably sourced ingredients and packaging. We never use artificial/synthetic chemicals, sulphates, parabens, detergents, or other nasty ingredients. Everything we use is plant derived and/or created through natural processes. We believe in being transparent with our customers about ingredients and how our products are made. All of the ingredients we use are not only good for you, but are good for the environment too!
Aloe Vera Juice
Aloe vera juice is the liquid produced by aloe vera plants. Aloe vera juice contains vitamins, minerals, and amino acids which provide countless benefits to the skin. Some benefits include evening skin tone/complexion, reducing inflammation, soothing irritated skin, and hydrating skin.
Apricot Kernel OIl
Apricot kernel oil is a natural oil produced from cold-pressing the kernel of apricots. Apricot kernel oil is high in vitamins and minerals and has a high oleic fatty acid composition, which nourishes, softens, and smoothens hair shafts while conditioning the scalp. We use apricot kernel oil as a moisturizer, carrier oil, and mild anti-inflammatory.
Bamboo Extract
Bamboo extract is a concentrated liquid form of bamboo leaves with all of the benefits of bamboo leaves. It is full of minerals, anti-oxidants, and amino acids which helps soothe skin and create a healthy environment for skin cells.
Beeswax
Beeswax is a natural wax derived from organic honey. It contains vitamins and anti-bacterial minerals that allows it to lock in moisture, protect skin and hair cells without clogging pores, and acts as a natural anti-inflammatory. We use beeswax as a solidifying agent and a natural preservative.
Bentonite Clay
Bentonite clay is a natural mineral that forms from aged volcanic ash. It helps remove oil and toxins from hair and skin while adding volume and texture to hair.
Castor Oil
Castor oil is a natural oil that is produced from the seed of the ricinus communis plant. Castor oil is a viscous oil that is high in ricinoleic acid, which is a natural fatty acid known for having extraordinary anti-inflammatory properties. We use castor oil as a moisturizer, carrier oil, anti-inflammatory, and natural thickening agent.
Chamomile Extract
Chamomile extract is a concentrated liquid form of chamomile flowers with all of the benefits of chamomile flowers. It is a natural antiseptic, anti-inflammatory, and is rich in antioxidants.
Chlorophyll
Chlorophyll is a natural green pigment found in the chloroplast of plants. It is loaded with antioxidants and minerals which fight breakouts, remove dead skin, and reduces inflammation.
Cocoa Butter
Cocoa butter is a natural extract from the cocoa bean, grown in the African Tropics. Cocoa butter is extremely high in healthy fatty acids, which makes it very moisturizing and helps increase skin and hair elasticity. We use cocoa butter as a conditioner and solidifying agent.
Cold-Brewed Green Tea
Green tea is water that has been steeped with green tea leaves. It is a natural antibacterial and skin protectant. Green tea contains a powerful antioxidant called EGCG (Epigallocatechin-3-gallate) which prevents skin cancer and aids in DNA repair of cells exposed to sunlight UV-rays. It also reduces inflammation and fights free radicals which leads to smoother and healthier skin.
Glycolic Acid
Glycolic acid is an alpha hydroxy acid that is derived from cane sugar. It is amazing at fighting acne and promoting healthier skin, as it removed dead skin cells and treats hyperpigmentation as well as wrinkles and fine lines.
Grapeseed oil
Grapeseed oil is a natural oil produced from cold-pressing seeds of grapes. Grapeseed oil has a high linoleic fatty acid composition, which softens hair, balances scalp health, and promotes healthy hair growth. It deeply conditions hair shafts and the scalp and acts as a natural anti-inflammatory. We use grapeseed oil as a conditioner and carrier oil.
Green Tea Extract
Green tea extract is a concentrated liquid form of green tea leaves with all of the antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals found in green tea. It enhances the already abundant benefits of green tea. It also naturally contains polyphenols, which are preservatives against bacterial and mold growth and have antioxidant properties.
Hydrogenated Castor Oil
PEG-40 hydrogenated castor oil is a natural polyethylene glycol derivative of castor oil after it has undergone hydrogenation (adding hydrogens to unsaturated oils and reduce them to fully saturated oil). It is used as a moisturizer, hydrator, and natural emulsifier between hydrophilic and hydrophobic molecules.
Jojoba OIl
Jojoba oil is a natural oil produced by the Simmondsia chinensis plant. Jojoba oil is an incredibly moisturizing oil that also helps regulate sebum production. It's high in vitamins and minerals and contains natural antibacterial properties, which can help with inflammation and irritation. We use jojoba oil as a moisturizer, carrier oil, and sebum regulator.
Kaolin Clay
Kaolin clay is a natural clay extracted from clay mines. It gently removes oil and toxins from hair and skin while adding volume and texture to hair. Kaolin clay is rich in minerals such as silica which improves hair elasticity, treats dandruff, and can stimulate healthier hair growth.
Orange Blossom Water
Orange blossom water is a made by distilling orange flowers. It is a natural anti-microbial and anti-inflammatory. Orange blossom water hydrates skin, controls oily skin, and reduces skin irritation.
Phenoxyethanol
Phenoxyethanol is a natural preservative derived from green tea. It stabilizes product pH levels, prevents products from drying out, and prevents yeast, mold, and bacterial growth.
Polysorbate-20
Polysorbate-20 is a natural sugar alcohol derivative that acts as an emulsifier between oil and water. It has a hydrophobic (oil-loving) body and a hydrophilic (water-loving) head, which stabilizes the emulsion of oil and water into a uniformed product.
Rose Flower Extract
Rose flower extract is a concentrated liquid form of rose flower petals with all of the antioxidants and vitamins found in rose petals. It enhances the already abundant benefits of rose petals.
Rose Water
Rose water is made by steeping rose petals in water. It is a skin protectant, anti-inflammatory, and is full of antioxidants. Rose water acts as a UV barrier on the skin, which helps prevent UV damage and protects skin against pollutants. Furthermore, it soothes and prevents skin irritation.
Salicylic Acid
Salicylic acid is a naturally produced compound from willow tree bark. It is amazing at fighting acne because it exfoliates skin by dissolves skin debris that clogs pores.
Shea Butter
Shea butter is a natural seed extract from the nut of the shea tree found in the African tropics. It's full of healthy vitamins and minerals that give this ingredient moisturizing, conditioning, and hydrating qualities. As a moisturizer, shea butter serves to soften, strengthen, and reduce frizz in hair. We use shea butter as a moisturizing and solidifying base for our solid colognes and Solid Grooming Tonic.
Soy Wax
Soy wax is a natural vegan wax produced by hydrogenating soybean oil into a soft and slightly brittle wax. Soy wax helps lock in moisture to the hair and provide structure to hair styles. We use soy wax as a solidifying agent and mild moisturizer.
Sweet Almond Oil
Sweet almond oil is a natural extract produced from the kernel of almond nuts. Sweet almond oil is abundant in healthy vitamins, fatty acids, and minerals. Its nutrient-rich composition makes it a powerful antioxidant, moisturizer, hair and skin protectant, and carrier oil. We use sweet almond oil as a moisturizer and carrier oil.
Vegetable Glycerin
Vegetable glycerine is a natural hydrophilic extract from coconut and soy oils. It is a natural moisturizer and humectant (hydrating agent). Vegetable glycerine allows for other ingredients to be absorbed into the skin easier and locks in moisture, which leads to softer and smoother skin.
Vitamin A (retinol)
Vitamin A is a natural antioxidant, antibacterial, and moisturiser. Vitamin A promotes healthy sebum production, which aids in protecting and nourishing scalp and hair cells.
Vitamin C
Vitamin C is a natural antioxidant and moisturizer. It helps with hair repair and protection against hair breakage from UV radiation and pollution.
Vitamin E
Vitamin E is a very powerful antioxidant and moisturizer. It helps promote healthy hair cells and skin cells by protecting them from heat and pollutants.
